The Eden Park Trust Board engaged WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, in partnership with Beca, to develop a sustainable transport master plan to support the redevelopment of the stadium and deliver an overall improvement for the local community and the greater Auckland region. The project successfully achieved planning approval and secured the staging rights for the major matches of the 2011 World Rugby Cup.

The transport master plan addressed the concerns of local residents about traffic and pedestrian movements, and outlined improvements to public transport services and facilities to increase the patronage on rail, bus and coach services to the stadium. The plan also included how to manage an increase in seating capacity in time for the 2011 Ruby World Cup.

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff completed a comparative review of best practice methods in major event transport planning; prepared travel demand forecasting and operational planning for rail, bus and coach services; and identified and designed necessary rail, bus and coach infrastructure.

Our role also included the development of a sustainable event transport strategy, pedestrian and crowd management plans, an event parking scheme, transport stakeholder consultation and TransScope microsimulation modelling. Following the development of the transport master plan, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff also prepared the documentation required to support the Resource Consent application.
