Opus International Consultants was one of only seven global finalists for the Leading Consulting Engineers of the Last 100 Years Award at the 2013 International Federation of Consulting Engineers Conference in Barcelona, Spain.
Opus won an Award of Merit for its significant contribution over the last 100 years, and its Britomart Transport Centre Project in Auckland received a Merit Award for Major Civil Engineering Projects of the last 100 years.
“This is fantastic recognition for us on the global stage,” says Dr David Prentice, Opus’ Chief Executive. “To be recognised by your global peers for the significant contribution Opus has made over the past 100 years, is immense. With a heritage dating back to the mid-1800’s, we started life as the Government’s Public Works Department and were instrumental in the development of NZ’s infrastructure. Today we are a listed company with some 3,000 people across 91 offices in five countries. Ours is a journey we are very proud of.”
“We also received a Merit Award for our Britomart project in Auckland, for Major Civil Engineering Projects of the last 100 years which is strong recognition of our innovative engineering expertise and the talent we have in the business.”
The Britomart Interchange was the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken by a local authority in New Zealand. “The project has been internationally recognised with an ACENZ Gold Award, the NZ Concrete Society Premier Award, and Institute of Structural Engineers Structural Award Commendation, and now the Award of Merit at the FIDIC awards in Barcelona. This project stacks up against the best globally.”
“This global recognition of both our work and our contribution to engineering is testament to our heritage and the expertise, dedication, enthusiasm and talent of our people. Infrastructure and engineering will continue to shape the world we live in, and I am very excited about the role we at Opus will play in that future.”
The International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC), is made up of Consulting Engineering Associations from around the world and is charged with promoting and implementing the consulting engineering industry’s strategic goals. Its membership now covers 94 countries around the world, and this year marks its centenary.
