Opus International Consultants (Opus), together with JV partner, Arup, has been awarded a significant Client Support Term Contract for road network management services for Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) in the UK.
The contract is subject to a 10-day challenge period, after which Opus expects confirmation of the award. This is a seven-year contract with the option of a five-year extension and will immediately increase the Opus team in the UK by over 100 people.
HCC has created an end-to-end ‘whole client service’ model, which involves Opus, Arup and HCC working together as a single team to collectively develop, implement and manage technical strategies and programmes for their highway network.
HCC is recognised as being at the forefront of the development and implementation of highway asset management within the UK, which creates obvious synergies for working in collaboration with fellow leaders in the field such as Opus and Arup.
Chief Executive and Managing Director, Dr David Prentice says that Opus is delighted to be awarded the contract. “We already have a strong working relationship with HCC, with both Opus and Arup working for the council on a regular basis, so it is a natural partnership.”
Arup Director, Allen Paul, said, “This is an exciting opportunity to showcase what we can achieve by working together with HCC and Opus to maximise efficiencies for the benefit of the client and everyone who uses the Hertfordshire road network.”
In establishing the ‘whole client service’ model, the Opus-Arup partnership will co-locate with HCC. Opus UK Director, Huw Edwards, says the partnership is confident it will provide substantial benefits to HCC.
“Clients are now looking for greater added value in the development and management of their infrastructure and we are committed to working in partnerships to bring about service excellence and project success,” Edwards explained.
“With austerity measures in place in many markets, the focus on effective management is growing with economic conditions forcing moves towards better asset management, cost saving and a ‘whole of life' approach. Opus is helping to lead the way here” said Dr Prentice.
Opus has built much of its reputation in this area through the Global Asset Management team led by Tony Porter, a recognised global leader in infrastructure asset management. This allows Opus to leverage its strong asset management credentials in a diverse range of geographic locations, building growth in existing markets and emerging economies. “Our local businesses are able to draw on the expertise of our Global Asset Management team, both in securing projects such as the HCC contract and adding value to delivery,” says Dr Prentice.
