The NZ Transport Agency GEM Awards recognise and celebrate suppliers who ‘Go the Extra Mile' for customer service and safety. The Opus/HEB team won the ‘Teaming Up' Award for the Marlborough Roads Network Outcome Contract. The HEB/Opus JV is the first of its kind in New Zealand for the NZ Transport Agency where two traditionally separate service providers - consultants and contractors, have amalgamated to deliver road maintenance services under a Network Outcome Contract in Marlborough. The JV environment has improved the service delivery to Marlborough Roads by providing a ‘one stop shop' and has also delivered the clients cost savings to the value of $750,000.

The Opus /Sicon Ferguson team won the ‘Customer Champion Award' for the SH6 Wanganui River Bridge Approach Reinstatement. In January last year, as a result of heavy rain, floodwaters washed away the northern approach to the Wanganui River Bridge on SH6. The Opus and Sicon Ferguson teams worked tirelessly to get the road open again. After being closed for just under six days, it was re-opened 18 hours ahead of schedule. The repair involved moving 96,000 m3 of gravel and stone and placement of 15,000 tonnes of rock.
